Topeka man pleads guilty in Larned State Hospital attack

Crime

A 22-year-old Kansas man has pleaded guilty in two attacks at the Larned State Hospital.

Anthony-Ruiz Hernandez, of Topeka, entered a plea of guilty for one count of attempted first-degree murder on Wednesday.

The charge stems from two attacks that occurred on October 22, 2018 of the Isaac Ray Building on the campus of Larned State Hospital.

One victim suffered severe head trauma, and investigators said the attacks were done in part to gain standing in a prison gang.

The maximum sentence Ruiz-Hernandez could get is more than 54 years.
