TALLEDEGA, Ala. (WVTM) – A young boy who shot a home intruder in Talledega, Alabama is speaking out about the incident, and the boy said the would-be burglar cried like a baby.
“I told him I was going to kill him and all that if he didn’t get out of my house,” said 11-year-old Chris Gaither.
Gather was home alone on Wednesday morning when he heard a noise. Someone had broken into his home. Scared, Chris grabbed a 9mm handgun.
“When he was coming down the stairs, that’s when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that,” said Chris.
The intruder made it out the front door with a hamper in hand. That’s when Chris started firing off bullets. As the intruder was about to jump a fence, Chris’s 12th and final shot hit the bad guy in the leg.
“I shot through the hamper he was carrying, it was a full metal jacket bullet,” Chris said. “It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby.”
Police have not released the condition of the suspect, but Chris’ mom says the man has robbed their house before. However, she says they don’t know him personally.
Chris credits his stepdad for his shooting skills.
“Yeah, probably zombies for target practice,” said Chris.
It turned out there was more than a basset hound on guard duty that day.
“I hope you learn your lesson coming to this house, trying to steal stuff,” Chris said.
The intruder was taken to an area hospital. His condition is not known.
