WASHINGTON, DC – A lot of Americans will be chewing on chicken wings on Sunday.
Super Bowl Sunday is, after all, the second biggest eating day each year right after Thanksgiving.
In a news release, the National Wing Report issued by the National Chicken Council says Americans will scarf down 1.3 billion wings over the weekend of Super Bowl 50.
The Council’s report says the number of wings consumed over over this year’s Super Bowl weekend is up 3 percent form 2015’s total of 1.25 billion wings. That’s about 37.5 million wings more than last year.
To put all those wings into perspective, the Council says 1.3 billion wings is enough for every man, woman and child in the U.S. to have four wings each. And, if all those chicken wings were laid end to end, they would stretch from the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina to Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver almost 53 times.
“Any way you measure it, that’s a lot of freaking wings,” said Tom Super, senior vice president of communications at the National Chicken Council.
