Authorities identify men shot, killed in north Wichita confrontation

The Wichita Police Department has identified two victims in Saturday’s homicide. It happened in the 2200 block of North Market around 2:30 a.m.

Two men, 24-year-old Manuel Otano-Hernandez and 36-year-old Jesse Villalobos, both of Wichita, were discovered by police with gunshot wounds. Otano-Hernandez was shot in the stomach. Villalobos was shot in the leg. Both men were taken to the hospital where they died from their injuries.

Police said it all started after Otano-Hernandez and two others were shooting a firearm into the air in the alley west of 21st and Market.

“Several individuals were in the backyard of the residence in the 2200 block of Market where the 36-year-old male was injured,” said officer Charley Davidson, Wichita Police Department. “A disturbance occurred between the individuals in the backyard and the alley when shots were fired by an unknown suspect. It struck the 24-year-old male.”

No one else was injured.

Police were able to speak to witnesses and are continuing to investigate. If you know anything about the shooting you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111 or detectives at 268-4407.

Wichita police said the shooting were the city’s 34th and 35th homicides of the year.
