Guilty: Couple convicted on 7 of 8 charges for torturing and killing Valley Center man

A jury has convicted two people on seven of eight counts including first-degree premeditated murder for torturing and killing a Valley Center man back in 2016.

Jeff and Heidi Hillard were charged with several crimes including first-degree murder for the death of Scottie Goodpaster, Jr. They were found not guilty for the charge of aggravated robbery. The sentencing hearing will be the morning of November 7.

Investigators said Goodpaster was tortured and a woman was forced to watch, stemming from a methamphetamine deal.

During the trial, several witnesses took the stand describing the horrific torture against Goodpaster. They included Alexandria Scott and Brian Bussart who testified against the Hillards. Both were arrested in connection to the case.

Attorneys gave their closing arguments, and the judge gave the jury their instructions. KSN will update when a verdict is reached.

Another man, Willie Morris was convicted of first-degree murder and other crimes against Goodpaster back in April and sentenced in May to prison. Morris was one of five people charged in Goodpaster’s death.
