Two men from Texas have been arrested after an armed robbery in McPherson.

McPherson police say the robbery happened around 3:10 Friday morning at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in McPherson.

The hotel clerk told authorities that two men came into the hotel with their faces covered and armed with a handgun. The clerk said the men demanded money and gave the men $171.00 from the cash register.

One of the suspects took the clerk into a back room while the other suspect tried to break into an ATM that was in the lobby, according to police.

The suspects then fled the scene in a red SUV.

The clerk told police one of the men was wearing a red hoodie and the clerk recognized the clothing from earlier in the day.

While police were responding to the robbery, officers saw a red Saturn Vue SUV with the back license plate covered with a plastic bag. The SUV was traveling away from the area of the hotel, police said.

Officers also found a red hoodie in the street where they saw the SUV. Police stopped the driver in the SUV and identified him as 18-year-old  Rodric D. Artmore. Brian Ard Jr., 19, was also in the SUV. Police said they found a gun and cash after searching the vehicle.

Artmore and Ard were arrested for aggravated robbery, kidnapping and criminal damage to property. They were booked into the McPherson County Jail and their bonds have been set at $20,500 each.

The suspects are both from Texas. Both Artmore and Ard were members of the Central Christian College basketball team. They have since been removed from the team’s website.

Police said the investigation into the robbery is ongoing.
