Authorities have charged a man with first-degree murder following Wichita’s latest homicide.

Christopher Kemmerly made his first appearance in a Sedgwick County courtroom Thursday. He was charged with first-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of stolen property and arson.

Kemmerly’s bond has been set at $250,000. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 7.

Kemmerly was arrested Monday following the shooting death of Justin Gaston. Police say the shooting was drug-related.

Police say Kemmerly shot Gaston outside of the CitiHost Motel Sunday night. He then set a stolen vehicle he was driving at the time on fire, according to police.
