WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department has identified the victim of a fatal stabbing Sunday evening as Jayson Stalkup, 44, of Wichita.

Investigators say they arrested Bryce Johnston, 27, of Bel Aire, in the case.

According to Sgt. J.D. Summerer, Wichita police, the Wichita Fire Department and Sedgwick County EMS responded to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of North Amidon just before 5 p.m. for a stabbing.

Officers found Stalkup in the parking lot with multiple stab wounds. Summerer said EMS worked on the victim for a considerable time before he was pronounced dead.

Around the same time officers were sent to the stabbing, other officers were sent to investigate an injury accident at 25th and Amidon. When officers got to the accident, they found Johnston. They say they identified him as the suspect in the stabbing.

Investigators say the two men got into an altercation at the apartment complex, and Johnston fatally stabbed Stalkup. Police believe the two men knew each other.

Johnston had minor injuries. He was taken to a hospital and then to jail.

Police booked Johnston on suspicion of first-degree murder.
