One man dead after shooting in north Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Wichita police continue to investigate a deadly shooting. It happened Sunday night around 8:50 in the 2400 block of North Prince. 

When police arrived, they found a 37-year-old man with several gunshot wounds near the backyard of the home. 

Police said the victim and another suspect were involved in a fight prior to shots being fired.

"There was a disturbance at a convenience store at 21st and Erie. During that disturbance, the 37-year-old victim pulled a gun on the individual. Everyone left," said Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department.  "The Suburban showed up at the residence. The victim opened fire on it. Occupant in Suburban returned fire."

The name of the shooting victim hasn't been released. 

Police said the 38-year-old suspect in the Suburban was booked into jail for possession of a firearm by a felon. Further charges could be filed once the case is presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney. Police said the victim and suspect have a history. 

The homicide is the 16th of the year in Wichita.
