WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita police said they arrested a 41-year-old man in connection to a homicide in northwest Wichita.

It happened early Wednesday morning near 24th and Sunny Lane. It is just west of Hoover and north of 21st Street.

According to police, 22-year-old Jacob Kalese of Wichita was shot at the location. Investigators said there was a small gathering when Kalese was allegedly shot by 41-year-old Michael Swinney in the backyard after a fight. Kalese was transported to the hospital where he died.

Police in a news release said Swinney was booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, an arrest and detain order through the Kansas Department of Corrections, and outstanding warrants. He was on parole.

Police said the shooting was not a random incident.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.  Additionally, Swinney has previous felony convictions and is currently on parolee with KDOC.
