Wichita police said they are investigating a child sex crimes case involving a young girl and her babysitter, who was a convicted murderer.
Police said a parent reported the incident, and they began investigating. A 56-year-old man was arrested.
“The male possibly sexually assaulted the 8-year-old victim over the last couple of years on multiple occasions while in his care,” said officer Charley Davidson, Wichita Police Department. “I don’t know the relationship between the family and the suspect.”
The man, identified on jail booking records as 56-year-old Clifford Eugene Cox, was booked on suspicion of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. He served time for murder and was released in 2006.
The case is still being investigated and will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for charges.
Wichita police said investigators are highly trained in dealing with these cases.
