Suspect in custody after Liberal man killed in shooting

Update: Police in Liberal say a man has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of Esteban Arzate. 

A 36-year-old man was taken into custody around 7:00 p.m. Friday. The man, who has not yet been identified, was booked for suspicion of second-degree murder. 

Police say an affidavit will be forwarded to the Seward County Attorney’s Office seeking formal charges. 

Police were called to a local hospital early Friday morning after Arzate was dropped off with multiple gun shot wounds. He later died of his injuries.

Police in Liberal are investigating after a 27-year-old man was killed in a shooting early Friday morning. 

Captain Robert Rogers with the Liberal Police Department said officers responded to Southwest Medical Center after Esteban Arzate, 27, hd been dropped off at the hospital around 4:20 a.m. Arzate had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died from his injuries. 

Police say a search warrant was later issued in the 700 block of N. Pennsylvania in connection to the homicide. Evidence of the crime was discovered during the search, according to police. 

Several people are being sought as potential witnesses to the crime and an investigation is ongoing. 

No charges have been filed at this time. 

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to please call the Liberal Police Department. Any information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward.
