The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said an 87-year-old woman was injured after a stolen car crashed into her. It happened around 7:20 p.m. Sunday evening.
A deputy said he was following a stolen Ford Focus south on I-235 near Seneca. The Focus exited I-235 at MacArthur and pulled into the gas station on the southwest corner of MacArthur and Broadway.
The suspect stopped for a few seconds before fleeing on Broadway.
The sheriff said the deputy did not pursue the Ford. A short time later, the Ford was involved in a crash at 47th Street South and Broadway where it had run the red light and struck a white 2014 Lincoln MKZ.
The driver of the Lincoln, an 87-year-old woman, was transported to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital.
The driver of the Focus, a 17-year-old female, attempted to flee and was taken into custody by another deputy. She was transported by a deputy to St. Francis. Another passenger in the Focus, a 45-year-old woman, was transported by ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital.
The teen was booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility for aggravated battery-reckless, felony flee & elude, possession of stolen property, DUI and no driver’s license.
