A man has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for robbing two Wichita men as they were loading their vehicle with camera equipment.

On Wednesday, Deon Ramsey, 28, of Wichita, was sentenced to 153 months in prison. He pled guilty to robbery, attempted aggravated robbery, making a false writing, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and two misdemeanors: driving while suspended and driving under the influence.

On February 4, 2017, two men were getting ready for a day trip to take photos at Maxwell Wildlife Refuge. Ramsay drove up to the men who were in the College Hill neighborhood and asked them for directions.

Ramsey then pointed a handgun at the men and robbed them, taking their wallets, a camera and a backpack containing another camera and a pistol.

In March of 2017, a police detective was notified of a stolen camera at a pawn shop. The detective tracked the camera back to the man who pawned it, Ramsey. One of the victims also picked Ramsey out of a police photo line-up.
