Winfield police seek suspect in sexual assault

The Winfield Police Department is investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted in her home Friday.

It happened just after 5 a.m. in the 1400 block of East 8th Avenue.

A woman told authorities that she was sexually assaulted. The victim stated she did not know the suspect. The victim stated the man was in his 20s. She described him as skinny with some facial hair.

Police and investigators are trying to put all of the pieces and evidence together about what led to that sexual assault.

Since about 6:00 a.m. a four-man team of trackers have been outlining footprints and evidence they’ve found outside of the home.

For those who live and even walk through the area normally, they says the attack comes as a shock.

“I mean this kind of stuff, I mean, it happens, I’m not oblivious to that, it’s just, you don’t hear about it too much in Winfield,” said Debbie Wheaton, Winfield resident.

The Winfield Police Department is working on several leads and will release more as the
investigation continues.
