WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Police say a fight over some property Sunday night turned into a shooting and a stabbing.
Around 8:25 p.m., police were sent to the 3100 block of S. Rutan Street for the report of a shooting.
But before Wichita Police Department officers got to the scene, they found a 22-year-old shooting victim at East Ross Parkway and South Rutan, a couple of blocks from the reported shooting. He told officers he had been shot in the leg at a home in the 3100 block of S. Rutan. He said an unknown man shot him and fled the scene. The 22-year-old was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
Officers got to the home and found a 30-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the abdomen. She was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
The WPD says their investigation revealed that the 22-year-old man was in a dispute with another man at the house over some property. The woman tried to intervene and was stabbed. The woman retreated into the house, and shots were fired outside.
The WPD did not say who stabbed the woman or who fired the shots. They also did not confirm whether the other man was still at the home or gone when officers arrived.
Police are looking for more information on the case. If you can help, call WPD investigators at 316-268-4407. If you want to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
