It was a bittersweet moment for Kaleb Valencia of Orlando.
Friday was his first day back at school since his father, Officer Kevin Valencia, was critically wounded in the line of duty.
With his father still in the hospital in a coma, the Orlando Police Department wanted to do something to help Kaleb battle the first-day jitters. So, his law-enforcement comrades stepped in and escorted Kaleb to his first day of school.
“Since his daddy couldn’t be there, Kevin’s Squad & Chief John Mina escorted Kaleb to his first day of school,” the agency wrote on Facebook.
A video shows dozens of officers line the streets outside of his school and give Kaleb high-fives and some words of encouragement while he posed with his new Batman backpack.
