DODGE CITY, Kansas – This weekend brings a blast from the past to Dodge City.
Celebrities including Burt Reynolds, Buck Taylor and Jess Walton will meet with fans to celebrate the 60th reunion of the hit show Gunsmoke.
“It’s going to be sweet. It’s going to be really good,” said Buck Taylor, Gunsmoke actor.
It’s been nearly 40 years since Buck Taylor has seen some of his co-stars from the classic show Gunsmoke.
And that’s what this weekend is all about.
Taylor and fellow Gunsmoke actors like Burt Reynolds and Jess Walton are getting the heck into Dodge.
“We’re trying to encourage tourism to come here and see the legendary town of the West, which is Dodge City,” Taylor said.
The three day festivities kick off tomorrow night with Gunsmoke Under the Stars, where fans can enjoy the show with the stars themselves at the drive-in theater right in Dodge City.
“Even though they didn’t film right here, they filmed out in L.A., it’s still a fun place to come and experience some of what Gunsmoke was about here,” said Jessi Rabe, the marketing director for Boot Hill Casino and Resort.
The event is the first of its kind in Dodge City, but officials say they believe the crowds will continue to come back for more.
“The people of Dodge City are going to be pleased to see that people are coming from all over the country for this,” Rabe said.
For Taylor, who says he’s a cowboy in real life at his ranch in Texas…
“I raise cattle and horses and I love to team rope,” Taylor said.
…Dodge City is the perfect place to host the Gunsmoke reunion.
“The show stands on its own and so does Dodge City, but Dodge City is such a legendary cow-town,” said Taylor. “If you ever come to Dodge, you go by the Boot Hill Casino and tell ’em Buck sent you.”
There’s a lot of meet and greet opportunities for fans. Here is the complete list of events.
