Improvements are coming to a dangerous intersection in the southwest part of the county according to Sedgwick County Commissioner Michael O’Donnell.

Earlier this month, nine people were injured in a crash at 135th Street West and 71st Street South. An SUV traveling east on 71st ran a stop sign and crashed into a car traveling on 135th. Four members of Clearwater schools were involved.

Last week, community members gathered and talked about how to improve the intersection

Today, on a closed Facebook group, O’Donnell said trees will be removed around the intersection and rumble strips will be installed on both sides of 71st Street helping to warn drivers about the stop ahead.

Already, enforcement has been stepped up at the intersection.
