K-96 reopens after cattle semi overturns

WICHITA, Kansas – Around 4 a.m. Wednesday, a cattle truck traveling eastbound on K-96 lost control and overturned in the median between 119th & Maize Road. The truck was carrying 59 head of cattle.

Officials say the driver may have lost control due to rain.

Fifty-five head of cattle remained on board the trailer, while four were loose. Five of the cows died.

It took crews several hours to round-up cattle pens and get the cattle transferred to another semi.

Crews were called in to get the truck upright. The driver of the truck wasn’t hurt. Both lanes of K-96 were closed but have since reopened.
