WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – If you have walked around Towne West Mall lately, you may have noticed a different kind of store.
On this week’s Main Street Kansas, KSN Photojournalist Merry Murray introduces us to artist Krystle Cole, who loves bright colors and animals.
“Mostly painting’s just a hobby for me, when I first started out,” said Krystle Cole. “I just love bright colors, and I love my cats so it was just a fun thing to do to de-stress.”
Krystle decided to turn her passion into a business.
“I’ve made roughly 200 paintings of animals,” she said. “Animals and bright colors are about as happy as you can get.”
Cole says her paintings start from a photo.
“That’s what’s so fun about painting is I’m the creator of this, I can make it whatever I want, and if it’s not going well, well just wipe it off and make it better.”
She sometimes works on each painting for over a week and a half.
“To me, my work is all about how it feels, and sometimes if it doesn’t feel right, I’ll just put more colors, and I add lots of different textures,” she said.
Krystle says she loves seeing the finished product, and the smiles it puts on others faces.
“Kids’ll just be giggling and pointing at ’em, and they get so excited and for me that’s so fun to be able to share that with people.”
Her goal is to paint every animal.
“Even when I think it’s done, there’s always something else that I could do.”
Krystle’s store is open Friday through Sunday, and you can also find her work for sale at the Sedgwick County Zoo.
