1 dead in fire at Wyldewood Cellars winery in Paxico

One person is dead after a fire at a Paxico winery, according to the Wabaunsee County Sheriff. 

Firefighters were first called to Wyldewood Cellars Winery just of I-70 in Paxico just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Crews from Paxico, McFarland, Maple Hill, Wabunsee, Alma and Wamego responded. 

They were able to get the flames out within two hours. So far, investigators don’t know what started the fire, but they are actively investigating. 

The manager said they closed their doors at 6 p.m. like usual, and they don’t know the person who died. 

She also said the owner told her that her job is safe, and they will rebuild. 

This is one of three Wyldewood Cellars locations. They also have locations in Peck and Wichita.
