Authorities confirm 4 deaths after Kansas house fire

Authorities say four people have died in a house fire near Manhattan.

The fire was first reported shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday. Ogden is about 10 miles southwest of Manhattan.

Fire crews found a two-story structure with heavy smoke. Crews entered and found four people dead inside.  

Frigid weather quickly froze water used to battle the blaze, complicating the firefight. Several firefighters were hurt falling.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. It is being investigated by the Riley County Fire Department, Riley County Police Department, Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and Manhattan Fire Department.

The names of the victims haven’t been released.
