The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said several fires in the county this past weekend are heating related.
The most serious occurred Sunday around 11:30 p.m. in the 700 block Highway 4 near Claflin.
Firefighters and deputies arrived and found the home fully involved. The home was not occupied at the time, but investigators found that the tenants had been using wood burning equipment to keep the home warm. The home is a total loss.
On Friday, the sheriff said two fires, one south of Hoisington and another just north of Great Bend, caused substantial damage to two homes. Those were both heating related also.
