WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Childcare professionals in Wichita are taking part in active-shooter training.
Heartspring held a morning session and afternoon session.
The training is provided by the Institute for Childhood Preparedness. Most in attendance care for children under 5 years old.
They’ll learn tactical methods, hands-on exercises, and strategies for responding to an active shooter situation.
This is especially important for employees at Heartspring. They are responsible for protecting kids who may not understand what’s going on.
“We’re talking about the youngest of the young kids who don’t understand, or in many cases, kids they don’t have awareness of what’s going on. So it’s really important for childcare providers not only for them to be able to protect themselves but also use those lessons to protect those kids in their care,” said Andrew Rozak, Institute of Childhood Preparedness.
The institute is putting on more training tomorrow in Dodge City.
