Clear the Shelters a success in Wichita, Great Bend and Salina

Clear the Shelters has been a success at participating animal shelters in Kansas.

The Kansas Humane Society, the Salina Animal Shelter and the Golden Belt Humane Society in Great Bend have waived adoption fees for shelter animals for one day only.

And a lot of people are going home happy with some new fur-ever family members.

The Golden Belt Humane Society in Great Bend only has a few dogs and cats left up for adoption after today’s event kicked off at 10 Saturday morning.

The Salina Animal Shelter was able to get all of their dogs adopted and they have a few cats left that are up for adoption.

The lines were long at the Kansas Humane Society where more than 100 animals were available for adoption at the start of the event.

One girl and her mother had been waiting in line since 3 a.m. in order to adopt their precious new pup.

The Clear the Shelters event ends at 2 p.m. in Great Bend and Salina. However, the Kansas Humane Society will hold the adoption event until their doors close at 6:30 p.m.

Clear the Shelters is a nationwide event. A real-time Adoption Tracker can be found at to show how may pets have been adopted across the country. Check it out!
