A conflict across the world in Myanmar has reached into a refugee center that for years has helped immigrants who arrive in Garden City to find jobs.

The LiveWell Finney County’s Neighborhood Learning Center, has provided a place for refugees to bond, learn English and adjust to life in the U.S. after they arrive in the western Kansas town.

Refugees from Myanmar – once known as Burma- brought along tensions between the predominantly Muslim ethnic Rohingya minority and the Buddhist Burmese. The Rohingya blame the Buddhists for a purge that has caused hundreds of thousands to flee Myanmar.

The Kansas News Service reports the Rohingya have mostly stopped coming to the center because they are uncomfortable near Burmese.
