One person is behind bars after Douglas County deputies and a Douglas County game warden discovered a dead deer in the trunk of their car early Saturday morning.

According to the Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Game Wardens, the discovery was made around 3:00 a.m. when a Douglas County deputy made a traffic stop and found blood coming out of the trunk of a car.

A .22 caliber rifle was also found inside the car.

Through further investigation, the deputy and a Douglas County game warden found a “freshly killed” deer in the trunk.

The trunk was lined with a blue tarp.

The game warden booked the driver of the car into the Douglas County Jail on multiple charges relating to the poaching of a deer as well as killing a deer during closed season.
