High flood waters hit Kingman, forces activity center and city park to close

Kansas

Heavy rain has caused flooding throughout parts of the Sunflower State. And in Kingman County, one water rescue was performed overnight to save an elderly couple.

The south fork of the Ninnescah River is flooded, causing the city park and county activity center to take on large amounts of water.

The activity center is closed because no one can get in or out and some local roads were blocked overnight due to the high water.

“Right back here I had a friend last night that we were trying to get some stuff out of his house we didn’t know how high the water was gonna be so my truck got stuck, his truck got stuck another guy’s truck got stuck,” explained Kevin Burrow, Kingman resident. “So we’ve been kind of keeping an eye on the water.”

No one was forcibly evacuated, but the sheriff’s office did notify several people who were in harm’s way that they would put them up in a motel room overnight.
