The Geary County Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Wednesday that Milford Lake will be a Cabela’s King Kat Championship Qualifier lake in 2019.

The CVB said the tournament is set for March 30, 2019 and is a two-person team event. The tournament will provide the opportunity for a team to win a spot at the national championship. The tournament will be headquartered at Acorns Resort.

Cabela’s sponsors 12 events annually in 10 states, offering $110,000 in cash and prizes for the top winner and a variety of other prizes for top point earners.

Milford is among 14 different qualifying sites around the country. The final event, dubbed the “Cabelas King Kat Classic,” will be held in Decatur, Alabama November 1-2, 2019.

“We are excited to have a Cabela’s King Kat Tournament at Milford Lake. This event will highlight the fishing at Milford Lake, provide positive exposure for our area and increase the economics of Geary County,” said Michele Stimatze, director of the CVB.
