Missing 78-year-old Kansas woman found dead in flooded vehicle

The statewide Silver Alert for 78-year-old Hazel Phillips has been canceled.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies located her dead in a vehicle in a flooded area in Paola. Osawatomie Fire Department removed the vehicle.

Phillips was last seen by members of her family on Tuesday. Family said she was planning to travel to Drexel, Missouri on Wednesday, but she did not arrive at her destination. A Silver Alert was issued after she didn't reach her location.

Her cause of death is still under investigation.

Authorities have issued a Silver Alert for a 78-year-old woman who went missing from Miami County.

The KBI, in conjunction with the Miami County Sheriff's Office, issued the alert for Hazel L. Phillips. 

Phillips was last seen by members of her family on Tuesday. Family say she was planning to travel to Drexel, Missouri on Wednesday, but she did not arrive at her destination. 

She drives a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu with Kansas tag 450HLB. 

She is described as 5'6" tall, weighing 120 pounds. She has brown hir and green eyes. 

Police say she may be suffering from medical conditions that could put her safety at risk. She may be in the Paola or Osawatomie areas.
