Officials break ground on new hotel and water park in Goddard

Kansas

A big day for the small town of Goddard as officials with the city, Genesis Health Club and founders of Great Wolf Lodge broke ground today.

A multi-million dollar hotel with 123 rooms, indoor water park with multiple slides, and gym are planned for the 19800 block of West Kellogg.

The complex will be near the planned Goddard Aquatic Center, and officials said it will be a huge draw for tourists.

“You know there’s not a water park within 150 miles of this location right now. You get to come to a full water park, parents can stay at the hotel, parents can workout, parents can watch their kids in competitive swimming competition, and or there’ll be baseball tournaments going on at the same time so it’s just really a venue for west Wichita to all come together and Goddard all as one big community out here,” said Rodney Steven, Genesis Health Clubs.

The mayor of Goddard says the water park resort will bring more than 400 jobs to the area.

Officials hope to have the complex open by December 2019.
