JEFFERSON COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW/KSNT) - The Kansas Highway Patrol confirms one person has died in a crash this afternoon in rural Jefferson County on US 59 Highway and 62nd Street south of Oskaloosa.

The Highway Patrol said the area between 62nd and 54th streets was shut down due to the crash that happened shortly before 3 p.m.

The KHP says the highway was reopened around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Authorities say a driver and a passenger in a Ford F-150 were traveling southbound on US 59 when the vehicle lost control and went into the opposite lane. The truck was struck on the passenger side by a Kia Optima.

The driver of the Kia, Lee Crum, 81, of Oskaloosa was killed in the crash. Three others were seriously injured in the crash.

Authorities say weather could have played a part.
