Salina police catch Wichita man hiding on top of dog kennel after pursuit

SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) – A Wichita man lead the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and the Salina Police Department on a pursuit Saturday. 

Salina Police Captian Paul Forrester said they received a call informing them that Ottawa County deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol officers chased a dark colored BMW on I-135 but lost it on the east side of Salina at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Salina officers pursued the vehicle many times throughout the city traveling at high rates of speed. 

At around 8:30 p.m., police found the suspect in an alley changing his clothes. The suspect ran and was found hiding on top of a dog kennel. 

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Elbert Costello of Wichita, was taken into custody. He was booked on suspicion of flee and elude, disobeying a traffic control device, speeding, felony obstruction, possession of marijuana and drug papaphernalia.
