Shawnee County detective involved in Jefferson County motorcycle crash

JEFFERSON CTY. Kan. (KSNT) - Two people were taken to the hospital following a motorcycle vs. car crash that happened in Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig said the crash happened in Perry near 17th St. and US Highway 24 around 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Herrig said Kevin Kasl of Topeka was operating a 2003 Honda motorcycle with his wife Karla Kasl, also of Topeka, as the passenger when they rear-ended a 2012 Hundai Elantra. Sheriff Herrig said Kevin Kasl is a Shawnee County Sheriff's detective.

Authorities said the car, driven by Jordan Columbus of Lawrence, stopped to make a sharp left turn on 17th St. when the motorcycle rear-ended his vehicle.

Both Kevin and Karla Kasl were taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Columbus was not injured in the crash.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
