Authorities in Sherman County are investigating a homicide that happened in Goodland.
According to the KBI, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation.
At around 12:30 Thursday morning, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting in the area of 5400 County Road 23, in Goodland. When officers arrived, they found 21-year-old Zachary Chavez of Tribune had been shot.
Chavez was taken to the Goodland Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Authorities say a person of interest has been identified and is in police custody.
No other details have been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
