Watch: Dash cam footage shows moments tornado ripped into Eureka

GREENWOOD COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) - Incredible dash camera footage shows the moments the EF-3 tornado ripped through the small town of Eureka on Tuesday.

The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office released the video on their Facebook Page Thursday night.

According to the department, the deputy driving the patrol vehicle in the video was originally at Casey's General Store at 8th St. and Main Street when the footage begins.

Authorities say the tornado sirens had just sounded and information was released over the radio that the tornado had touched ground on the southwest edge of Eureka.

The stamp of the video shows 7:16 p.m.

In an attempt to outrun the tornado, the deputy ended up directly in the middle of the twister, the sheriff's department said.

During his efforts to escape, a power pole snapped and crashed to the ground.

"All things considered, it could have been much worse," the Facebook post read in part. "We are a resilient community and will rebuild again."
