KBI reveals inmate death at Cowley County Jail was a suicide

COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) – More information has been released in the death of an inmate at Cowley County Jail October 19.

According to Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti, Jason Porter, 48, of Arkansas City crawled over a second story railing and fell to the floor. Porter was transported to William Newton Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The KBI said this was an intentional act by Porter.

Several inmates in the pod with Porter as well as corrections staff on duty during the event were counseled by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Chaplain Corps.

4:40 p.m. October 19

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into a death that occurred Thursday at the Cowley County Jail.

According to Cowley County Sheriff David Falletti, no other information regarding the death will be released at this time. The name of the deceased will also not be released until family members are notified.
