TOPEKA, Kansas – There is pushback from the Latino community against the controversial state senate bill known as the “Rule of Law Restoration Act.”

Latino leaders held a press conference today where they announced plans to defeat the bill, which is backed by Secretary of State Kris Kobach is behind it.

The bill is aimed at blocking the recent executive orders by President Obama that prevents the deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants.

“Either he’s looking for a soap box again on which to beat up on immigrants, or he just doesn’t understand the powers of his office,” said Joan Wagnon with the Kansas Democratic Party.

“Senate bill 166 does not attempt to overturn President Obama’s executive amnesties,” said Secretary of State Kris Kobach. “What it does is agree with the recent federal court decision that the president acted illegally and unconstitutionally.”

If the bill gets past the legislature and the governor, it would take effect January first of next year.
