UPDATE: Police have arrested two people on suspicion of felony murder.
Wichita Police Officer Charley Davidson said Austin Stewart, 36, and Landon Onek, 54, both of Wichita were arrested Friday.
Thursday evening police were asked to check the welfare of Floyd Gilbert, 88, of Wichita. Officers found Gilbert inside h is home with injuries to his body and he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Gilbert’s 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo was also missing.
Stewart and Onek were arrested as a result of the investigation.
“He was a good person and I don’t know why anybody would hurt him,” said Shirley Dunnington, the victim’s neighbor.
The investigation into the murder is ongoing. Police say this is the 43rd homicide in Wichita this year.
Around 8:15 p.m. Thursday evening, Wichita Police officers responded to the 2200 block of West MacArthur in south Wichita for a welfare check.
When officers arrived, they found an 88-year-old man with injuries to his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the man lived alone in the home.
As of Friday morning, Wichita Police Officer Paul Cruz said police have a 36-year-old man in custody regarding the case. Police would not provide any more details about the relationship between the victim and the man in custody.
