5-year-old boy killed in Reno County farm accident

RENO COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) – Authorities said a 5-year-old died in a farming accident outside Hutchinson on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened in the 900 block of East Red Rock Road.

Police say Adam Schrock’s older brother was moving grain with a tractor when his two younger brothers climbed the tractor in front.

The older sibling told them to get down and it was not safe. Both younger brothers jumped off the tractor.

Adam’s clothing became wrapped up, his pant leg caught in the power takeoff.

Officials says this is a farming community and they’re calling it a freak accident.

“These kids grow up on the farm with chores even at the age of five,” said Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson. “So, it’s not like they were new to this kind of activity. Unfortunately, it ended in a tragic event this time.

Officials say no charges will be filed in this case.
