Ascension Via Christi warns of scam involving robocallers

Ascension Via Christi is warning people of scam.

Recently, Wichitans have been getting calls that caller ID indicates are coming from Ascension Via Christi, but they are not.

Instead, they are robocalls from telemarketers who have “spoofed” in Ascension Via Christi’s name to get you to take their calls selling back braces and other products.

“Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to stop this deceptive practice other than to alert the public that these calls are not coming from us,” says Kevin Strecker, regional hospital president for Ascension Via Christi.

But there is something that those who receive calls from caller ID scammers can and should do, according to the Federal Trade Commission’s web site: Report it by going to or by calling 1-877-438-4338.

Advice from the FTC’s website:

  • Don’t give out – or confirm – your personal or financial information to someone who calls.
  • Don’t wire funds or send money using a reloadable card. In fact, never pay someone who calls out of the blue, even if the name or number on the caller ID looks legit.
