EL DORADO, Kan. (KSNW) – Authorities have positively identified a body found at El Dorado Lake as Kevin C. Bidwell.
The identification was done at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center using DNA.
For one family, the discovery hit close to home.
Allison Smith says it’s been five and a half months since her father, Kevin, was last seen. She didn’t know if she would ever know what happened until last Saturday.
“Lieutenant detective called me, and told me that she wanted to tell me before I heard it through anybody else,” said Allison Smith, Mount Hope.
It is now providing closure for Allison Smith and her family.
“We knew we were going to have to face it at one point, just no matter when you do, it’s always hard,” said Desiree Marrs, El Dorado.
On November 3 last year, Smith says her father went missing at the park’s Boulder Bluff area campground two. She says her father went camping there when he could.
“He loved the lake, he loved to be outdoors, he just chose to live that life,” said Smith.
Smith says they couldn’t find any leads on his disappearance after months of searching.
“I went through his tent and everything trying to find any kind of clues as to what happened, where he might be at,” said Smith.
“We did several searches around that area, but I believe the water was just too high,” said Marrs.
“He’s always been an artist, he loved to draw things and he’s made all of these for me,” said Smith.
Allison has a collection of shirts her father made for her over the years. A reminder of her father’s talents, and love for his daughter. She says no matter what happens, she just misses her dad.
“I wish we had more time with him,” said Smith.
