Barton County authorities investigate explosion at marijuana wax lab

GREAT BEND, Kan. (KSNW) - Authorities in Barton County are investigating a marijuana wax lab. 

Late Friday afternoon, the Barton County Sheriff's Office responded along with the Great Bend Fire Department to the 70 block of Southeast 20 Road. A fire was extinguished 

During the investigation, authorities learned there was a butane explosion and discovered a clandestine lab for the manufacture of marijuana wax, also called BHO or DAB.  

Sheriff's deputies seized a substantial quantity of marijuana, finished BHO, drug paraphernalia and processing equipment at the scene. Over 100, 10 ounce bottles of butane were also seized.

The resident returned to the scene with severe burns but refused medical treatment. The incident is still under investigation. The sheriff said arrests are expected in the future.

The lab was the first of its kind for Barton County
