Break out the green for Delano’s St. Patrick’s parade

Local

Wichitans will break out the green for the 13th Annual Delano St. Patrick’s parade.

Parade organizers try to do it bigger and better every year.

“We try to, every year, push for more and more entertaining entries and everything like that,” said parade organizer Cameron Lawrence.

There will also be the tradidional parade entries, such as the Shriner cars.

Stop by the different activities and events happening before and after the parade. There will be Paddy’s Parade Pit Stop along the route — featuring food trucks, games and a DJ.

Last year, the parade brought in 20,000 people, with March Madness being a contributing factor.

Lawrence expects around 5,000-15,000 this year.

The parade has become a family tradition for many Wichitans. As for Lawrence and his grandmother Nancy, there’s one simple thing they love about the event.

“We love when they [City of Wichita] paint the parade stripe down the street, so they paint the normal traffic yellow lines, that are down Delano, green for us,” Lawrence said.

The parade starts at noon on Saturday.

The route runs from Douglas and McLean, to Douglas and Walnut.
