Burrton-area family to thank first-responders in appreciation party

Local

Denise Neubauer and her family have had more than one scare in recent years concerning their ranch home near Burrton with approaching wildfires.

“There are no words to describe when you’re coming home from a fire to know when you pull in your lane if your house is going to be there,” Neubauer said.

Due to the success of area first-responders, Neubauer’s home and belongings have been saved by crews keeping fires at bay. She and her family live right near the junction of four area counties. It’s grounds for a grand “thank you” that Neubauer has been trying to figure out how to say correctly.

The answer comes in the form of a good night’s sleep.

“My husband and I have MyPillows and love ’em. He’s in the army reserves and actually took his pillow to Afghanistan with him, so I was like that’s what those guys could use: a good night’s sleep,” Neubauer said.

Neubauer reached out to MyPillow and other companies and explained her situation…that she wanted to properly thank first-responders for saving her family’s home. She said it took a week or two but MyPillow got back with her and eventually delivered 600 MyPillows.

“They’re out there through the night, while I’m laying in my soft bed. It’s just, they’re selfless,” Neubauer said, holding back tears.

In addition to her job as a dental hygienist, Neubauer and her husband own the Cloud Nine Venue in Moundridge. The venue will play host to a first-responder appreciation party this Saturday, May 5 from 1-5 p.m. All police/fire/EMS members are invited to attend with a valid ID, as well as their families.

There will be restaurant gift card giveaways, multiple prizes including Royals tickets and autographed Chiefs memorabilia. Oh yeah, and 600 MyPillows.

“They’ve saved our house, they’ve saved our livelihoods over the years so we’re just very grateful,” Neubauer said.
