Police are investigating after a seven-month-old girl died in Wellington earlier this month.
A community is in shock this afternoon as people learned about Jesslinn’s death.
“It’s sad really that a seven month old girl lost her life under suspicious circumstances, I mean you don’t really hear about a lot of stuff like that down here,” said Trenton Barragan, Wellington resident.
“I definitely think it’s devastating for myself just kind of being a mom but also for a town and being in a small town you kind of know one another or if not, you know someone related to them,” added Kalyna Buresh, of Wellington.
Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath says the child was taken to a local hospital April 1 because she wasn’t breathing. She was then rushed to a Wichita hospital and after several days was pronounced dead.
Heath says they have findings from the autopsy, but at this point, cannot release them as they are part of an ongoing investigation.
“You wish you never had to investigate but it’s, I don’t want to say it’s part of the job,” said Tracy Heath, Wellington Police Chief. “But we need to get an understanding of what occurred in Wellington last Sunday morning.”
Heath says the parents of little Jesslinn have been questioned, but says so far, there are no suspects. He also says it has been several years since they’ve looked into a case like this.
