WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita fire crews battled an early morning blaze at a southeast Wichita apartment complex. It happened in the 9200 block of East Harry just after 6 a.m. at the Buttonwood Tree Apartments.
The fire started in a second story apartment, and it impacted three total units. One apartment is a total loss.Two units have water damage. Eight residences have been affected by the fire.
“When the occupant had left the apartment, she left the door open. So, the fire was was really starting to build in intensity. At that point ,they were able to get up there and put some water on the fire and get the door closed,” said Battalion Chief Joe Bickle, Wichita Fire Department.
Crews estimate the fire caused about $50,000 worth of damage to the structure and $20,000 worth of damage to contents inside the apartment. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
