Two Wichita car dealers will pay thousands in civil penalties relating to safety recall notices.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney has entered into consent judgments with an auto dealership and the general manager of a second dealership.

The first agreement involved Eddie Hill, general manager for Elite Auto Sales at 5505 E. Kellogg. The district attorney called for Hill to pay $5,000 in civil penalties, and address repairs, including an inoperable seatbelt. Hill did not admit to the allegations.

The next agreement was with Aztec Motors at 2013 S. Broadway. Owner Andrea Hecox and salesperson Reyes Cruz agreed to pay $10,000 in civil penalties, check all of their vehicles for recalls, and address compensation to some previous customers. Hecox and Cruz denied the allegations

The district attorney reminds residents that safety recalls affect millions of cars, and residents should inquire before buying a vehicle if it is subject to a recall.

Residents can check their vehicles for recalls by clicking here. Recalls are free and repairs are covered by the manufacturer.
