A family is grieving and a community responding after a woman was shot and killed by her husband over the weekend.
Kristin Floria-Gile was a mother of six and after her husband took her life, he took his own. The tragedy comes on the heels of the Floria family burying Kristen’s grandmother.
“This has been a hard year for them,” said a member of St. Mary’s Parish, the Florio family’s church.
Heartbroken and working to cope with the losses in their family, those closest to them are working to lift them up in prayer.
“I am her Mom’s sister,” said Sharon Drost, Kristen’s aunt. “I know she loved her family so much. They were very close. And had a close relationship with God. She was my first niece. I was so proud.Such a beautiful women inside and out. A great mother.”
KSN spoke with some of Kristen’s friends, who each had messages for those experiencing domestic abuse.
“It’s not just her, everyone who’s going through domestic violence needs to reach out and get help before it’s too late,” said Courtney Rhodenbaugh. “I’ve known Kristen and her family for five years. She was an amazing person and loving mother to her kids; everything was about the kids.”
The Florio family is currently planning Kristen’s funeral, which will be held Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Derby at 6 p.m. There will also be a viewing on Wednesday at Smith Mortuary in Derby from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The family left KSN with this statement:
“We would like to thank the community for the outpouring of support. When a tragedy such as this leaves you questioning humanity, it’s the kind words from strangers that remind you that God is still here. Kristin was a sweet and caring person who always wanted the best for everyone. She was a loving and involved mother who always put her kids first. Because of this immense love of her children, we know she can finally be at peace knowing they will be safe, loved, and cared for. We are absolutely overwhelmed and appreciative of the generosity from everyone. Thank you all so much.”
There is a GoFundMe page set up to help the family.
